Toyota Tacoma is a pickup truck. Since 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been produced in Mexico and the United States by Toyota, a Japanese vehicle manufacturer. The first-generation Tacoma was categorized as a compact pickup from 1995 to 2004. The second generation, which was produced from 2005 to 2015, and the third generation, which has been produced since 2015, are categorized as midsized pickups and are manufactured in the United States and Mexico.
The Tacoma was named Truck of the Year by Motor Trend in 2005. The Toyota Tacoma is currently available for purchase in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Bolivia, Bermuda, and the French territory of New Caledonia as of 2015.

Toyota introduced a new off-road package, Toyota Racing Development (TRD), in 1998. Off-road tires, 16-inch alloy wheels, TRD dampers, a locking rear differential, and TRD graphics are included in the package. Toyota released a TRD performance package for the Tundra full-size pickup in 2001. This package was offered for Tacoma in 2005, along with the launch of the newly redesigned Tacoma.
TRD supercharger For the FJ Cruiser and Tacoma equipped with a 4.0-liter V6 engine, Toyota Racing Development developed a TRD supercharger, which was available through Toyota dealerships. Magnuson Superchargers collaborated on the development of this supercharger.
Eaton roots-type rotating components in a one-piece integral manifold, iridium spark plugs, and a five-rib serpentine drive belt system are all included in this supercharger system. It generates a boost pressure of roughly 6 psi (0.41 atm; 41,000 Pa). When fitted by an authorized Scion or Toyota dealer, the supercharger is covered by the same guarantee as to the powertrain: five years or 60,000 miles (97,000 km), whichever comes first, or the duration of the new car warranty, whichever comes first.
The supercharger is covered by a 12-month, 12,000-mile (19,000-km) parts-only warranty when not installed by an authorized dealer. The TRD supercharger has a suggested retail price of $4500, which does not include installation. As of June 2015, the TRD supercharger program had been phased out for all vehicles, including the Tacoma.
Tacoma Concept From the Future
Toyota and Universal Pictures commemorated the 30th anniversary of the Back to the Future (franchise) on October 21, 2015, with a Toyota Tacoma Concept inspired by the original Toyota truck developed for Back to the Future.
The same features and black color paint trim were used to reproduce the 2016 Tacoma 4WD, including KC HiLite driving lamps (modified with LED lighting), modified headlights, and taillights (to match the 1985 version), Toyota badging on the tailgate, D-4S fuel injection, and 1985-inspired mudflaps.
The tires are the only variation between the 1985 original and the 2016 concept: Goodyear was featured in the 1985 film, and the premise is based on BF Goodrich. In addition, unlike the original 1985 Pickup, the idea lacked a solid front axle. This is a one-off concept, according to Toyota, with no intentions to offer it as a package or level trim.
The 2022 Toyota Tacoma
The 2022 Toyota Tacoma is great for work and off-roading, but it has a smaller interior and less polished driving characteristics than most other mid-size pickups. While it’s the only one with a manual transmission, its underpowered four-cylinder engine and 270-hp V-6 engine produce average performance; a six-speed automatic transmission is available but isn’t very tuned.
At the very least, the Tacoma is backed by Toyota’s legendary dependability, and its off-road-ready variants are particularly capable. It thrives in the mud and on the trails, thanks to a flexible suspension and tough equipment that let it maintain its status alongside icons like the Jeep Wrangler and now the Gladiator.
The 2022 Toyota Tacoma isn’t as customizable as the Jeeps, and it doesn’t drive as well as the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon, but it’s robust and comes standard with driver-assistance technology.
What’s New in the 2022 Toyota Tacoma?
For the 2022 model year, lifted Tacoma models will be a lot higher. Both the Trail Edition and the TRD Pro are now half-inched taller in the back and 1.1 and 1.5 inches taller in the front, respectively. Because of their increased height, each vehicle has a superior approach, break-over, and departure angles, making crawling over uneven terrain much easier than previously.
In addition, the TRD Pro now has a distinctive Electric Lime paint color, while the Trail Edition may now be painted in Lunar Rock (previously limited to TRD Pro models). Bronze 16-inch rims and bronze lettering in the grille are among the Trail Edition’s aesthetic changes. The TRD Pro now has a debossed “TRD Pro” badge on the rear bedsides, as well as new hood graphics.
The capacity of towing and payload
With rear-wheel drive, the Tacoma can tow up to 6800 pounds; four-wheel-drive variants can tow up to 6500 pounds. The Tacoma’s maximum payload capacity of 1685 pounds is only accessible on two wheel drive models with the four-cylinder engine; four-wheel drive vehicles with the V-6 engine have significantly reduced capabilities.
Real-World MPG and Fuel Economy
The V-6 Tacoma’s EPA-estimated fuel economy is in the center of the pack, but it falls short of more efficient competitors in our real-world highway tests. Despite the fact that the manual transmission with the V-6 has the worst fuel economy, it is far more enjoyable to drive.
The Tacoma equaled its EPA highway estimate of 23 mpg in our real-world fuel-economy test. Despite this, the Honda Ridgeline and the diesel GMC Canyon both got 5 mpg less.
Cargo, Interior, and Comfort
It’s admirable to be true to your roots, but it doesn’t help the Tacoma’s cabin. The utilitarian design and materials harken back to a bygone period. Hard plastics and minimalistic materials are widely used in the higher trim levels. The Tacoma, on the other hand, now has a power-adjustable driver’s seat.
Even yet, the Toyota Tacoma is known for its tiny quarters. Legroom is horrible in the Tacoma crew cab’s back seat, so passengers will have to cram in. The Tacoma’s five- or six-foot bed provides plenty of space, but there are few storage compartments and restricted carry-on capacity within. The Tacoma’s interior storage is limited, and the crew cab we tested could only fit nine carry-ons in the back seat. There aren’t many useable storage bins or compartments aside from the center console container.
